The BRIGHTSkillsproject recently hosted a two-day Co-Creation Workshop at the IESEBusiness School in Barcelona on June 10–11. This workshop was a critical stepin addressing the urgent skill needs within Europe’s health industry sector, covering key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, medtech, digitalhealth, and medical supplies. The aim of the workshop was to bringtogether diverse stakeholders to design innovative, actionable training modulesthat would enhance the competencies of Europe’s health industry workforce, aligning with both sector-specific and transversal skill demands.
One of the key activities was the identification of skill gaps andopportunities within the health industry ecosystem. By using the BRIGHTSkillscore competencies as a reference framework, participants worked in teams toassess existing training resources and identify critical areas where new oradapted content was needed. A number of significant gaps wereidentified, particularly in emerging fields like digital transformationreadiness, environmental, social and governance (ESH) skills, AIregulation, leadership, competency in quality, safety, and data literacy.
In addition to discovering these gaps, participants discussed opportunities to repurpose and redesign existingcontent to better address the rapidly changing demands of the workforce. Thegroup also highlighted the need for adaptable training formats to meetthe diverse learning styles and schedules of health industry professionals. Theimportance of flexible delivery methods—such as hybrid, self-paced, andonline formats—was emphasized to increase learner engagement and ensureaccessibility for all professionals, from entry-level staff to seniorexecutives.
The BRIGHTSkillsCo-Creation Workshop on Urgent Skill Needs was a pivotal moment in thedevelopment of Europe’s future health industry workforce training programmes.Through the collaboration of industry leaders, educational experts, andhealth industry professionals, the workshop not only created the foundationfor scalable, high-impact training but also fostered a shared understanding ofthe urgent competencies needed to address the current and future challenges ofthe industry.
