Digital health and life sciences employers, workers and representatives are invited to contribute to pan-European consultations shaping future workforce training and development across Europe.
A growing mismatch between academic training and business needs impact employers’ talent pools and means companies are competing for the best talent, as learning and development programmes are fragmented. Talent shortages have direct impacts for workers who are required to keep up-to-date and develop hybrid skills in fast moving environments, with impacts on their workloads.
Initial research by the BRIGHTskills consortium highlighted a clear trend: employers face strong competition to attract workers with the right workplace skills in areas such as leadership, digital and AI technologies, research and development, compliance and regulatory affairs, and environmental sustainability (including green manufacturing).
At the same time, research findings indicate that academic programmes must be multidisciplinary and ensure that students possess a combination of technical, regulatory and soft skills upon graduation. For those already in the workplace, new skills and competencies can only be gained by continuous professional development gained with courses that are aligned with their sector of activity, their role and experience levels.
